Abstract
The method of Gomori for the histochemical demonstration of esterolytic enzymes is critically examined. Since both lipase and the non-specific esterases are revealed by the technic the more general title "Esterase Reaction" is suggested. By using electropotentiometric titrations with Tween as a substrate and some other esterolytic enzymes, conditions for the best reaction were detd. Duration of the treatment,pH, temp., and substrate concn. factors that could possibly influence the results, are discussed. False results attributable to diffusion of the enzyme or intermediate products or to the non-specific reaction of other substances are discussed. Keywords
