Abstract
The rate of con-duction in the pedal nerves of Ariolimax columbianus was detd. when the nerves were subjected to various degrees of stretch. The conduction velocity was calculated by plotting conduction distances against conduction times and by measuring the time taken for the action potential to pass 2 fixed pairs of electrodes arranged in parallel. More than 80 sets of measurements were made. Without exception, the pedal nerves of A. columbianus could be stretched to more than twice their original length without any essential alteration in the speed of conduction of the fastest fibers. This constancy of conduction rate in stretched and unstretched fibers is discussed in relation to the histology of the pedal nerves. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
