Abstract
The optimal therapy for acute bronchitis depends on the causative pathogen and the presence or absence of underlying lung disease. Because there is no fast, reliable way to identify the pathogen, physicians have to rely on clinical judgment and epidemiologic characteristics. In this article, Drs Flaherty, Saint, Fendrick, and Martinez discuss how an evidence-based approach to treatment may help ensure that efficacious therapy is available in the future. Keywords
