Abstract
The argument by Perdew and Norman [Phys. Rev. B 26, 5445 (1982)] that exact Kohn-Sham orbital energies are not physical electron removal energies is shown to be nonrigorous (but highly illuminating) because the Talman optimized potential model which underlies their argument does not constrain the density. Keywords
