Abstract
The paper gives a short overview of the R+D activities concerning cutting with CO2 lasers in the Federal Republic of Germany. This includes some results of a joint research project, in which 16 institutes and companies worked together during the last three years as well as some new industrial applications and their physical problems. Main emphasis is put on the cutting of metal sheets with respect to the industrial application. The cutting of stainless steel of up to 30 mm and high speed cutting (100 m/min) of thin metal sheets (0.3 mm) will be demonstrated. Keywords
