Abstract
Dilute colchicine solutions have been found to modify the early stages of germination of spores in the ferns Dryopteris subpubescens and Goniopteris prolifera. When subsequently grown on soil the prothalli continued to grow abnormally and produced abnormal sperms. Certain prothalli in both species produced large sperms, possibly being diploid, and others and less normal ones produced giant possibly tetraploid sperms. Monstrous sperms were noted in which two, three, or four bodies were all united in front, or more rarely where the body forks into two heads. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
