Abstract
Alignment of the 2p53s2(2P32/) state in atomic magnesium is studied for e-, H+ and He+ impact ionisation by measuring the angular distribution of the emitted Auger electrons. Impact velocities range from 0.3 nu 2p to 10.0 nu 2p, where nu 2p is the velocity of the magnesium 2p electron. For electron and ion impact marked differences are observed near nu = nu 2p and strong alignment is induced at lower ion velocities. The experimental data are compared with PWRA calculations by Berezhko and Kabachnik (1977).Keywords
