Graphic Presentation of a Mathematical Solution for Interacting Diffuse Layers

Abstract
The scaled electrical potential, Y = zεψ/kT, is presented as a function of the effective surface charge density, the external solution concentration, valence of the cation and distance between clay platelets for symmetric electrolytes. Swelling pressures and ion concentrations near the platelets may be calculated from these values of Y using some of the simple equations published by other authors and reproduced herein.
