The Behaviour of Whole Blood towards Maltose in vitro

Abstract
Maltose could not be detected in the blood of the mouse, rat, guinea-pig, rabbit, sheep, or ox, but under the same experimental conditions, pig''s blood had a high maltase activity. The efficiency of maltose in alleviating an insulin hypoglycemia can not, therefore, depend on the maltase content of the blood. As insulinized mice respond more readily to maltose than insulinized rabbits do, hydrolysis of the di-saccharide probably takes place in the tissues.
