Abstract
The various nomenclatures for the subdivisions of the lung volume are discussed and a simplified classification proposed. The accuracies of the various methods for the measurement of these subdivisions were analyzed in detail and evidence submitted that the functional residual air should be taken as the starting point for all lung volume estimation. A simple method for the measurement of the functional residual air which demands a minimum of cooperation from the subject is described. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
