An Apparatus for Rapid Collection of Fleas from Rodent Nests

Abstract
The apparatus described meets the requirements in plaque studies for rapid removal of live fleas from nest materials. Heated air is forced through the nest material spread loosly over wire trays in a funnel made from a bucket 14" in diameter and 18" deep, in the cover of which is mounted a 750 rpm 10" fan and heater assembly. Separate switches control 300 watt and 1000 watt nichrome heating elements. All fleas (up to several hundred) can be removed from average nests in 10 to 30 min.
