Phloem Regeneration Across Girdles of Grape Vines1

Abstract
Callus bridges are formed across girdle wounds on ‘Cardinal’ grape vines within 16 days following girdling. Anatomical studies show that phloem connections are re-established across such wounds within a few days following bridging by callus pads. Callus development was always faster and more extensive from the upper than the lower edge of girdle wounds.
