Abstract
A model potential for real materials is proposed that consists of inverse‐power, 1/rn, repulsion with a density dependent power, n (ρ), and Kac attraction, −γ3 exp(−γr). The function n (ρ) is determined semiempirically from compressibility factor data along the melting line. The model is applied to the alkali metals and is capable of reproducing the Kraut–Kennedy law and the maximum in the melting curve. Keywords
