Hysterical Conversion Reactions

Abstract
Society accepts illness as a reason for inability to function in occupational and social roles. Conversion reactions are viewed as unconscious enactments of sick-role behavior by psychosocially maladjusted persons. The patients are convinced that they have physical illness, and often the pain experienced is identical with learned or known pain. Group psychotherapy has been impressively effective.
