Abstract
When skin strippings collected using vinyl adhesive tape were compared with conventional skin scrapings, it was found that the former was at least as efficient for the isolation of a range of dermatophyte species on culture. However of the specimens from which a fungus was subsequently grown, only 53·3% of the tape strippings were observed to contain fungal hyphae on direct microscopy in contrast with 82·8% for the comparable skin scrapings. Keywords
