DAY AND NIGHT EXCRETION OF PREGNANDIOL GLUGURONIDATE AND NEUTRAL 17-KETOSTEROIDS IN PREGNANCY

Abstract
Examination of the urinary output of pregnandiol glucuronidate in 13 pregnant ?? showed that, despite fluctuations which occurred over rather long periods, the amts. excreted in successive 12- or 24-hr. periods rarely differed by more than 30%. There was no constant preponderance of the 12-hr. diurnal over the 12-hr. nocturnal output, or vice versa. The mean of 36 ratios of the diurnal/nocturnal excretion was 0.99, with a standard deviation of 0.24. The amts. excreted were not related to the vol. output of urine, and the findings in general were the same in those patients suffering from abnormalities of gestation as in those who were normally pregnant. Analogous findings were obtained for the excretion of neutral 17-ketosteroids, which were simultaneously studied in 3 patients. The examination of 12-hr. day or night samples of urine evidently provides as reliable a reflection of current levels and trends of excretion for these substances as does the study of 24-hr. specimens.
