Abstract
Using a photoionization mass spectrometer, the photoionization efficiency of ytterbium has been measured from 1350–2000 Å. The spectrum is dominated by line structure which tentative analysis indicates is due to the following configurations: , and . The ionization potential derived for Yb I from Rydberg series is 6.25 ± 0.01 eV.
