HEPATITIS-B INFECTION IN NEW-ZEALAND CHILDREN

Abstract
Hepatitis B markers were tested for in 2001 samples of serum from those aged 0-21 yrs. There was a prevalance in Europeans of hepatitis B of 10% with a 2% HBsAg [hepatitis B surface antigen] carrier rate. For Maoris the prevalence was 25% with a 6% HBsAg carrier rate. The highest carrier rate was in the northern districts.
