Specific heat, magnetic and Mössbauer effect measurements are reported for Eu3S4. The increase of entropy on heating through the transition at 160 K is 3.3 joules/K/mole ; it is associated with partial charge disordering of Eu++ and Eu+++ ions. The compound orders ferromagnetically at 3.1 K and the magnetic susceptibility above this temperature is explained as the sum of a Van Vleck contribution due to Eu+++ and a Curie-Weiss part due to Eu++
