Epizootic of Trichophyton Mentagrophytes (Interdigitale) in White Mice

Abstract
An epizootic of Trichophvton mentagrophytes was observed in a colony of 400 white mice of a research laboratory. Alopecia, thinning and brittleness of hair all over the body, and some folliculitis were accompanied by a general state of infection with emaciation. Two types of plaques were formed: crateriform plaques covered with a thick crust localized on the trunk, neck and particularly on the face; smaller crustless, plaques observed on the face, neck and especially on the trunk. The technician examining the animals became infected and was successfully treated by antifungal therapy.
