Abstract
We report Monte Carlo simulation results for the susceptibility and specific heat of the one-dimensional plane rotator system with interaction. The data confirm the previously conjectured transition to a phase with infinite susceptibility. For the equivalent model of a tunnel junction, the Monte Carlo transition temperature implies that a transition from activated to metallic behavior takes place when the normal conductance of the junction exceeds kΩ.
