Abstract
To the Editor: The descriptions of the toxic shock syndrome (TSS) by Davis1 and Shands2 and their colleagues have emphasized that it is a severe illness that includes hypotension. However, it is not well recognized that there is a spectrum of disease that includes milder illnesses. Recurrent episodes of TSS (which occurred in up to 28 per cent of these authors' patients) that do not require hospitalization are examples of milder illness.
