Abstract
A method to estimate a transverse correlation length λ in magnetic thin-film media has been developed. Using a pseudomicrotrack (or filamentary track) analysis, expressions for estimating λ of the media have been derived. λ can be determined from the slope of the correlation coefficient of read back signals read at different lateral positions. It was observed that λ does not strongly depend on the remanent magnetic state for a single-layer medium with strong intergranular coupling but decreases significantly near demagnetization for a multilayer mediumKeywords
