Abstract
The reactions of cells to x-rays (Schrek, 1946) and nitrogen mustard (Schrek, 1947) have been studied previously by the method of unstained cell counts. This method has been used in this work to determine the effect of extracts and hormones of the adrenal cortex on cells of the thymus and of the bone marrow. methods The thymic gland or the bone marrow from the femurs of a rabbit was removed and placed in a small amount of Ringer’s solution containing 5% isotonic phosphate buffer pH 7.6. The organs were chopped up with a fine pair of scissors and were then passed through a Seitz filter equipped with an 80 mesh Monel metal wire gauze. The cellular suspension thus obtained was washed once and resuspended in a mixture of equal parts of phosphate-Ringer’s solution and rabbit serum. Keywords
