Abstract
The combined finite element‐transfer matrix method is applied to elastic‐plastic problems with large displacements. In the calculation program developed in this paper, the same procedures as those used in the finite element method based on load increment, are applied except for the estimation of approximate displacements for each specified incremental load. The Prandtl‐Reuss'law obeying the von Mises yield criterion is assumed, and a set of moving coordinate systems is used to take geometric nonlinearity into consideration. Various numerical examples of the geometric and material nonlinear problem are shown to demonstrate the accuracy of this method. These examples' results are in good agreement with those obtained by the finite element method and others. Keywords
