Treatment of Congenital Deformities of the Hand and Forearm

Abstract
(Second of Two Parts)Failure of Separation of PartsWebbing Webbing of the fingers is among the more common congenital anomalies of the hand.95 Webbing between fingers of disparate length causes rotation and angulation that may worsen unless the fingers are released early. If all fingers are webbed, as with Apert's syndrome96 or with patients who lack several digits, the border digits may be released as early as six months of age to allow the hand to be used for grasp. When simple syndactyly does not interfere with the growth or function of the hand, surgical release may be postponed . . .
