Abstract
Single‐crystal platelets of CdS supported on a room temperature substrate have shown laser emission under pulsed 22‐kV electron bombardment at current densities around 4 A per cm2. This threshold is not much greater than at liquid nitrogen. The green laser beam is sheet‐like and has a wavelength of 5280 Å. An approximate figure for the pulsed power efficiency intò the total laser beam is 0.5% at levels not far above threshold. Keywords
