Abstract
Weanling rats on a diet deficient in choline and other methyl-donators develop a hemorrhagic diathesis and death in 25 of 62 instances. Electro-micro-stimulation of the capillary bed indicated that the vessel fragility occurred primarily in the small collecting venules of the capillary bed. Vaso-spasm in arterioles was the result largely of starvation, along with increased responsiveness of muscular elements to vaso-constricting stimuli. Post-choline deficiency hypertension appeared in 46% of the surviving animals.
