Abstract
C. campylum was grown in sterile, fat-free solutions of proteose-peptone. After 5 days the colpidia and the culture fluid were analyzed for fatty acid, cholesterol and phospholipid. Cholesterol was never found. There were large amounts of fatty acid in the organisms and in the ambient culture fluid. Phospholipid was found in the colpidia and in the culture fluid. The amount of lipid in the culture fluid was greater than that in the colpidia. It is concluded that C. campylum synthesizes lipid from protein. Keywords
