Successful rearing of Hypogastrura manubrialis Tullberg was accomplished by using a substrate of a 1:1 mixture of activated charcoal and plaster of paris and offering as a sole source of food yeast, liver, or mushroom. Yeast-fed colonies were superior in all respects to liver, or mushroom-fed colonies. Maintenance was simple and observations easily made. An obligatory gregarious habit was observed. Other aspects of biology noted were incubation period of the eggs, oyiposition habits, life expectancy, and general feeding habits. Since results of this study differed from those on the same species conducted in Germany, possible explanations for the discrepancies are given.
