Abstract
Integral and differential linearities are important features of an analog to digital converter in sorting continuous variable distributions, for instance in nuclear spectroscopy. Dithering is shown to improve these characteristics with a small loss in time résolution of the converter. To this purpose the concept of channel profile is here defined and used to examine the effects of dithering on the performance of an A/D converter. Keywords
