The Spectral Composition of Shade Light in Woodlands

Abstract
The spectral composition and daylight factors of the shade light in Picea and Castanea woodlands with a rich associated flora are compared. The canopy of a deciduous woodland is a highly selective filter of light, of a coniferous (evergreen) woodland less so. It is not always possible to say whether 1 woodland site is "lighter" or "darker" than another without specifying the wavelength. It is therefore very important in ecological work to state in every case the spectral sensitivity of the apparatus used to measure light.
