Abstract
DDT and its analogs are readily sorbed by chitin from colloidal suspension. The sorptive power appears to be peculiar to chitin since cellulose, wool and silica powder do not possess this power. The rate of sorption depends on the concn. of the colloidal suspension. The total amt. sorbed by a given wt. of chitin appears to depend on the surface area of the chitin. The molecular amts. of DDT and its analogs sorbed from suspensions of equimolecular concns. are approx. equal, as are apparently the rates of sorption. There is no significant correlation between the sorption of DDT analogs on chitin and their toxicity. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
