Relating Soil Science Teaching to Land Use Planning

Abstract
Introducing soil science into the diversified disciplines concerned with land use and land management planning requires both modification of traditional introductory soil science courses and development of new courses, workshops, and seminars. A shift from a disciplinary to a problem‐oriented focus appears desirable in some cases. Because of the limited opportunities for planners to become familiar with soil science during their degree programs, a strong program of continuing education in soil science is essential for optimum long‐term interaction between soil scientists and planners.
