Abstract
The study included 47 patients with sputum positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis on culture who were in a tuberculosis sanatorium and 165 subjects representing selected segments of the general population. The correlation of the tine test with the Mantoux was high in the sanatorium population: 42 positive time reactors to 43 positive Mantoux reactors. The qualitative correlation between the Mantoux and the tine tests in the general population was considerably lower, there being only 31 positive tine reactions out of 45 positive Mantoux reactions. The difference in the 2 populations with respect to the qualitative correlation between the tine and Mantoux reactions was significant at the 1% level. The possible meaning of this difference is discussed in the context of earlier studies. Keywords
