Abstract
Application of granular systemic insecticides in mid-April (1973–75), ca. 2 weeks before fundatrices begin oviposition, prevented galling by the eastern spruce gall aphid, Adelges abietis (L.). The same insecticides applied in mid-May (1972) or mid-June (1971) failed to prevent galling or to cause mortality of adelgids within galls. Aldicarb controlled A. abietis when applied on broken ground at the dripline of the tree at the rate of 2.8 g AI/2.54 em of trunk cliam 30.48 cm above ground, whereas, carbofuran and Dacamox® (3,3-dimethyl-1-methylthio-2-butanone O-methylcarbamoyloxime) were effective only when used at 5 times this rate. Aldicarb and carbofuran were similarly effective against the Cooley spruce gall aphid, A. cooleyi (Gillette). This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
