Abstract
Sigmoidoscopy was performed for haematochezia in 500 consecutive patients. Haemorrhoidal disease was the most frequent cause of haematochezia. Neoplastic disease of the colorectum caused haematochezia in 5°7o of the patients; and in 1% of patients, neoplastic disease co-existed with haemorrhoidal disease. Keywords
