Autoionisation in quasimolecular system formed in multiply charged ion-atom collisions

Abstract
Energy distributions of electrons ejected in slow (v0<0.5 au) multiply charged ion-atom collisions have been measured. Attention has been focused on the decay of autoionisation states whose potential curves cross the boundary of continuum at internuclear distances of the order of atomic dimensions. Experimental evidence is presented that in this case autoionisation in the quasimolecule is the most effective mechanism for electron production.
