ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION OF BLUE GROUSE

Abstract
Blue grouse (Dendragapus obscurus fuliginosus, Ridgway) were successfully artificially inseminated by the use of modified techniques developed for chickens and turkeys. The results indicate that hens that have laid at least two or three eggs before artificial insemination will have fertility comparable to that of naturally mated hens in an aviary. More refined insemination techniques will have to be developed to obtain the degree of fertility found under field conditions.
