Demographics of Pet Ownership among U.S. Elderly

Abstract
A telephone survey of a national probability sample of U.S. elderly aged 65 and over contrasts the demographic characteristics of 408 pet owners and 824 non-pet-owners residing in 1,232 households from 45 states and the District of Columbia. Significant differences between pet owners and non-pet-owners relate to marital status, education, socioeconomic status, resident region of the country, and age.
