Abstract

The formula in question is

σ^{2} (E in l^{n}) = [\frac{n (n - 1) (4 l + 2 - n) (4 l + 2 - n - 1)}{2 (4 l) (4 l - 1)}] σ^{2} (E in l^{2}) .

The proof makes use of probability matrices rather than of fractional parentage coefficients.
