Abstract
Colorvision studies were performed in 294 Brazilian Indians and Mestizos (160 males and 134 females). Putatively "full blood" individuals did not present deficiencies but several were found among the Mestizos. A Mestizo Guarani family from the locality of Duque de Caxias showing several protodefec-tives, including 2 women, was studied in detail. These results were compared with other obtained among Brazilian Indians. In a general way they agree with Post''s (1962) thesis that peoples with a shorter history of pastoral-agricultural economies and settled habits will have lower rates of color-blind persons. Keywords
