Abstract
Coordination compounds between mercuric thiocyanate and mercuric cyanide as ligands and the Group IV halides as Lewis acids have been prepared and their infrared (i.r.) spectra (4000–200 cm−1) examined. Two types of compounds, MX4•L and MX4•2L where M = Ti, Sn; X = Cl, Br; and L = Hg(SCN)2 or Hg(CN)2 were characterized. On the basis of i.r. spectral results, possible coordination through the thiocyanato and cyano groups has been discussed.
