Abstract
A key element in the behavioural approach within geography is the investigation of environmental perception. This paper is concerned with perception of the urban environment and particularly with the nature of mental maps of urban areas. References are drawn from the growing literature of pertinent urban studies and illustrations taken from a series of exercises undertaken in one particular city, Dundee. Keywords
