Effect of Phorone and Other Growth Regulators on the Incidence of Storage Breakdown in Apples

Abstract
Various compounds known to regulate plant growth were examined for their effect on breakdown in cool-stored apples. The auxins NAA and IAA and abscisic acid were the most effective compounds in inducing the disorder, whereas phorone reduced breakdown. Phorone was also compared with GA3, which had previously been shown to reduce breakdown. Phorone was more effective than GA3 when both compounds were applied to the fruit by injection but was less effective when applied by dipping in a solution.
