Hepatitis A and Β in a Naval Population

Abstract
A prospective serological survey to determine the prevalence and incidence of hepatitis A and Β was conducted aboard two naval vessels during deployments in the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans. At an initial screening, the prevalence of hepatitis A antibody was 22%, and the prevalence of hepatitis Β markers was 14%. The serological conversion rate for hepatitis Β markers was 4.1/100 person-years of exposure. This high conversion rate could not be related to sexual exposure histories.
