Abstract
This study suggests that amongst adolescents with asthma, especially those whose asthma is not well controlled, there is a willingness to monitor control and receive feedback using internet-based methods. Those with a long-term condition are understandably unlikely to want to regularly monitor their own condition unless it is perceived to be of benefit to them. There is some evidence from other studies that electronic monitoring may be more attractive to patients. This study specifically looked at adolescents, a group often perceived to be problematical, and showed that internet monitoring with feedback was thought to be feasible, not particularly time consuming and did not really interfere with the participants' daily activities. Whilst some of the participants gave the impression that long-term monitoring by this method would be ‘fine’, this really needs to be tested in practice. Since the study was largely a qualitative study based on focus group interviews, harder outcomes need to be determined. Keywords
