Abstract
Antibodies were demonstrated in BALB/c mice which had received an injection of lyophilized homologous tumor S621 in Freund''s adjuvant. The following techniques were employed: (1) Tumor regression was demonstrated in mice immunized by intra-abdominal or subcutaneous routes. Over 50% of those injected by the intra-abdominal route were protected against tumor growth. (2) The Schultz-Dale technique of in vitro anaphylaxis, employing an antigen from either lyophilized or fresh tumor, was used to demonstrate antibodies in immunized mice, and in immunized mice which had survived a challenge inoculum of tumor. (3) A decrease in the number of exudate cells was shown when the cells from sensitized mice were incubated in vitro with a tumor antigen and complement; no decrease in cell number occurred when a liver antigen was used instead of the tumor. Keywords
