A single soil treat-ment of either aldrin or heptachlor at 25 lb. actual per acre gave a 94.2% reduction in flea beetle injury to Irish potato foliage and practically eliminated tuber damage. The beneficial effects of soil treatments through increased flea beetle control are rather clearly indicated by yields of 169 and 181 bags (100 lb.) of U.S. No. 1 potatoes per acre for aldrin and heptachlor, respectively, as compared with a yield of only 96 bags per acre in the untreated check. There were no significant differences in yield between the soil treated plots and plots receiving 4 foliage applications of dieldrin at 0.2 lb. per acre per application.
