Relations between Proportional Stock Density and Growth and Condition of Northern Pike Populations

Abstract
Proportional stock density (PSD) is an index used to quantify length-frequency data. The PSD of populations of northern pike Esox lucius in eight states was positively correlated with growth and condition. Fish condition was positively correlated with PSD, which indicated that populations dominated by larger individuals had higher condition factors than did populations dominated by smaller fish. The PSD was also positively correlated with growth of northern pike. These relationships indicate that PSD is one method that can be used to assess northern pike populations.
